CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!

Volunteer for New MS Wellness Horsemanship Project!

Equestrian Crossings (EqX) is looking for several committed VOLUNTEERS to help with an exciting new 6-week pilot project using our horses starting in May!

In cooperation with the Swedish Hospital Neuroscience Institute of Seattle Wellness program, our certified instructors will be providing dedicated riding lessons to some of their adult Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients.  These patients will be taking part in once-weekly adaptive riding lessons in the Greenbank area of beautiful Whidbey Island, in order to experience the unique benefits of equine-assisted activities.

TRAINING PROVIDED!  No horsemanship experience needed! Since we will be working with a variety of large and small horses, we need volunteers who are able to help lift and support adult students at the halt and while walking. Some students may need up to 3 volunteers each to assist them. Lesson length is typically 60-90 minutes and will be held during the day on Thursdays.

Contact EQX to sign up for training by April 14thWe have need for volunteers during some of our other lessons as well.

CARS (Charitable Adult Rides & Services) was created to provide logistical and managerial support to non-profits in order to help them achieve maximum profitability from all fund raising efforts. This site is dedicated to helping organizations create, implement, and manage vehicle donation programs all across the United States.

Since the tax law changes of 2004 the vehicle donation industry has seen some turbulent times. Many non-profits have abandoned their programs all together in the face of burdensome Government Regulations. When organizations face a lack of funding or a lack of manpower this is where CARS comes in.

Through our innovative technologies and programs CARS streamlines vehicle donation programs for non-profits helping them to maximize profitability. Our experience and dedicated staff give us the confidence to say that CARS is truly, The Nation’s Leader in Charitable Logistics.

Car Donation Process

CARS accepts most cars, trucks, trailers, boats, RV’s, motorcycles, off road vehicles, heavy equipment and most other motorized vehicles. We are able to accept most vehicles running or not. The process is easy!

You simply:

Choose Equestrian Crossings from our Nonprofit List

Or call us toll-free at 855-500-RIDE seven days a week to speak to a representative.

Schedule the Vehicle Pickup

We will contact you within 24 hours of receipt of the donation to schedule a pickup within 2 to 3 business days. If you need your car picked up sooner, please call us toll-free at 855-500-RIDE seven days a week. We may be able to make those arrangements as well. The vehicle will be picked up by a licensed tow company at no cost to you and will be taken to our sale location. You will be provided a Pick-Up Receipt by the tow truck operator.

You will need the title to the vehicle, but if you do not have it, please call us anyway. It is possible that other arrangements can be made. Please call us toll-free at 855-500-RIDE seven days a week.

Car is Sold

We have our own sales locations where we evaluate the cars. When it is cost-effective, we make major and/or minor mechanical repairs. We use auction houses to sell the majority of our vehicles. On occasion we may receive a unique or specialty item for which we may use other means to sell the vehicle. Our goal is to ensure that the non-profit organization receives the maximum amount of money for each donation that they receive.

We Provide all Necessary Tax Deduction Receipts and IRS Forms

CARS will provide a written acknowledgment of your car donation as soon as you donate your car — either by using our online car donation form or by calling one of our operators. As soon as the car is sold, and it is determined that your donated car qualifies for a deduction of more than $500, we will mail you an additional receipt and will include an IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes. This information will be mailed to you within 30 days of the sale if you provided your tax identification number at the time of your initial donation.

Tax Deductions

How does the law effect my tax deduction?

Donors are not responsible for determining the deductible value of their donation. Instead, they will receive IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes if the proceeds from the sale exceed $500, stating the amount of the gross proceeds from the sale of the donated vehicle. The amount listed on IRS Form 1098-C will be the gross proceeds of the deductible donation.

Will I get a tax receipt for my donation?

Yes, our driver will provide a receipt at the time of pick-up. This is not your final tax receipt unless the sale of your vehicle does not exceed $500. This initial acknowledgement will indicate your name as well as the year, make, model and condition of the car you are donating. It will be your only receipt if your vehicle sells for less than $500 and you provided your tax payer identification number at the time of the donation. You will need to file this form with the IRS in order to claim a tax deduction for your vehicle donation.

An IRS Form 1098-C, Contributions of Motor Vehicles, Boats, and Airplanes will be mailed to you within 30 days of the sale stating the amount of gross proceeds received from your car, provided your vehicle sold for more than $500. This will be your tax receipt for your charitable contribution.

How is the value determined on the vehicle donated?

The value is determined by the gross proceeds raised from the sale of the donated vehicle. You no longer have the burden of determining the value yourself. The nonprofit organization will report the gross proceeds raised from the sale of the vehicle to the donor and IRS.

JOIN OUR “BOARD OF DIRECTORS”

EqX Blog – October 20, 2014

2014 classes are over, but there is no ‘off-season’ for us at EqX. The Board of Directors (BOD) and Instructors have a to-do list to keep our program up and running and growing as we plan for 2015.

A current priority is to fill open positions on our Board. We are a volunteer board of a small non-profit with a huge potential to grow as we continue to meet the needs of our community with an equine program that offers many options for many riders.

I started as a volunteer in 2011 in the arena, as a side-walker for adaptive riders. When there was an opening on the EqX Board in November 2012, I stepped up, as President. What I brought to the EqX program was a professional background working for county and state boards.

Since then we’ve made changes and we’ve made progress. Our budget is healthy, committees were developed, we applied for and received some nice grants, we have our own 501(c)3, we have 3 CHA certified instructors and our student and volunteer base continue to grow. The EqX Vaulting Team was instrumental in an American Vaulting Association (AVA) rule change that now includes adaptive riders in competition. We offer tax-incentives for owners whose horses are used in our program, we are able to reimburse our Instructors for some professional certification classes or conferences, and we area again offering students lower 2015 class rates if paid before December 31.

The EqX Board and Instructors accomplished this as a team. For all the progress we’ve made, we still have lots to do.

This time of year we actively recruit new board members for open positions. Our BOD consists of an Executive Board (President, VP, Treasurer and Secretary) and At-Large board positions. Each At-Large board member heads a committee. As our priorities change, these committees change. Currently, the Secretary position is open, and must be filled.

No experience with horses, or board work? Please don’t let that stop you from contacting EqX. We work as a team, and we are looking to add more team members. We are looking for community members to bring their expertise, interest, and enthusiasm as At-Large board members to Equestrian Crossings.

With Best Regards to All,

Bridget Simon

President, EqX
